Bukowski Was Right
Landlords,
old men in shit stained underwear,
crazy women ranting in the streets,
a man with a dog with a purpose in life,
walking straight ahead,
a drunk sleeping on the sidewalk with
a smile on his face,
occasional flurry of costumes parading along,
normal everyday greyness tomorrow,
trying to sell little bits of stuff in order to
afford a taco.
The few with something to say don’t have
that much to say.
Nothing anyone does about it anyway.
It goes on as if it has a purpose, a logic:
going to Mars, making the world a better place.
We’ve been promised everything before.
Some call it religion.
I call it history.
How has that worked out for us so far?
It’s the human drama only Buddha could
see through.
Bukowski showed it very well; the defeat
on so many faces, wondering where they
went wrong, let alone what happened in
the first place….where they come from,
where they are going.
Humans are an experiment, let alone
a better form of government.
The unevolved Homosap never seems
to get it right, or even get it together
for very long.
“Like a fighter, the soul must be constantly
in training, lest it grow soft on an ephemeral throne.”
William Burroughs.
The truth is, life sucks.
Knowing that is the starting point
of liberation.
