The Algorithm Has You
One may imagine the sight of billions of ants on a driftwood,
floating on a fast running stream. The ants are apparently unaware
that their driftwood is nearing a cataract. They seem even
ignorant of the fact that they are on a driftwood. If they were aware,
how could they afford to hate one another, scheme against one
another, and be occupied with greed and hostility? The moment when
the driftwood falls down the cataract, what would anything mean to
one or another ant, friend or foe? This pathetic sight is nothing but
an epitome of today's mankind."
Tamo-San 1957
Take your pick.
Choose your poison.
You know someone, some normally sane person,
that is losing their mind, just because
of a feeling, a sense that, not their lives,
rather, the world is out of control.
Progress, sustainability, survival…
this is the direction understanding has moved
in the last few decades.
If only we had free energy.
If only we had the wisdom of the elders.
If only we could survive in the bush like the aboriginals.
The old paradigms no longer function.
The old paradigms are millstones around the neck.
Ask the young Chinese people who are “lying flat”.
Ask the retiree whose Social Security isn’t enough to live.
Ask the Billionaires in their underground survival palaces.
A runaway train doesn’t stop until it runs out of track.
The track, the paradigm, the next five year plan,
even the possibility of “a new Golden Age” are all
looking over their shoulders to what’s chasing them.
Could the Second Coming of Christ save us?
Maybe the space aliens can save us?
Beliefs are threadbare in the face of reality.
Evolution might have been a waste of time.
