Emptiness
Your words are hollow, you don’t mean them.
Your expression is vacant, you’re not really there.
“Excuse me, what were you saying?”
You say the same things over and over as if they
still had meaning.
All you have as proof of life
are snapshots from vacations,
a bowling trophy on the mantle,
your diploma that never really meant anything.
You don’t take time to stop and smell the roses.
You and your friends have runny noses.
Is it sad?
You tell me.
Whatever it is it is.
If you look at it, maybe you’ll see for yourself
instead of singing the same tired song again.
Maybe I should stop writing now, just sit here,
be still and try to look pretty.
