"Don't Scare The Straight People"

This is an aphorism that came out
of taking LSD in the Sixties. It came
about because trippers were wont to
behave a bit...strangely, and, if you
weren't on that bus, you were definitely
off of it. Mixing that mind with regular
folks going on about their business
often led to problems. The principle is
true now more than ever....in fact, the
straights are scared stiff just by what
is happening in the world now to the
point of not wanting to experience much
of anything, let alone a bunch of crazies
dancing down the street singing merrily.

Actually happened in summer 1970...I was staying in Northfield with some other Carls. One night, one of the guys wanted to show me the movie he made of a bathroom. So, naturally, we dropped acid and watched it six times. Just as the sun was coming up, we heard a disturbance down the street. We saw a group of young people walking towards us. As we watched them, there was something strangely random and familiar about their progress up the street. Could this be? We had to make contact. We met them in the street, and sho' 'nuff, they were
also tripping. We became one group, and followed them to one of their parents' houses. Mom was home. I have no idea what she thought....my friend and I hung out for a while and then left.
