French Movie

This young trashed dude gets his foot
run over by a car and after a hospital
winds up back outside on a bench
on a bridge over a river. In the morning
he sees Juliette Binoche on the next bench
with some art a cat and one eye. After
some philosophy they get drunk and
dance in the streets and he falls in love
and after some doubt she falls in love
with him and they steal some money
and make love on the beach and after
some more philosophy he causes her
to accidentally knock the money in the
river….I walk out before the end…
I could see it coming….probably they
set fire to something and after some
philosophy she realizes he can’t stand
her cat and we’re at the station her face
pressed against the train window and
as it slowly pulls away we see him on
the platform shirtless dirty re-trashed
an empty look on his face as he gets
smaller and smaller. I’m
walking to the pizza shop past the late
night hot dog stands young lovers
embracing in the street then at Café Amor
on the balcony I see Juliette Binoche below
me walking slowly up the street alone a
patch over one eye I yell she turns looks
at me for a good minute doesn’t smile
doesn’t speak turns slowly back and
continues walking up the street.

I hate French movies.

So many French films are a complete waste of beauty -- beautiful women, beautiful camera shots -- what have you. In the name of out-Frenching the last very "stylish" film. I seem to remember a comment by Hamlet in "Hamlet" about actors overdoing it. Something about Hecuba. Could apply to film, too. These films are infuriating because they draw you in with beauty, throw you out with stupid attitude and don't bother to just do what they're doing. I remember going to see "Beauty and the Beast" with Catherine Deneuve. Luckily I didn't understand more than 10 words and got to just enjoy Ms. Deneuve. The movie was extremely stupid and stylish though. Pity. Wish they'd just made a film... Seems like nobody does these days. Do what they're doing. There are some good films made by Frenchmen, though...

Yes. I remember seeing "The Balcony"...Gene Genet...
and Sartre's "No Exit" one Saturday evening on acid.
After hallucinations over hot pecan pie in a local diner, we figured the best way to handle the situation was go to the movies. The drama and intensity of these two movies actually mitigated the other intensity. Also..."Le Jour Se Leve"...screen play by Jacques Prevert....melodramatic, but with one of the greatest villains in movies
