What’s Up Monkey Boys?

Humans have possibilities,
being born as an animal not so much.
In fact, as a human, one can get enlightened.
Animals, not so much.
As a human, one can be obsessed by many things.
In that way, they are not much different from animals.

Just something to ponder
on your bus ride
on your coffee break
when you’re stuck in traffic
just before you fall asleep.

Just something I sometimes think about,
having studied Buddhism for many years,
it’s become part of me, the way I see.

What do you see besides what the little voices
in your head tell about you what’s going on?

Cool and cloudy today…I brought my umbrella
but there were only a few drops from the buildings.

There’s no magic in words, incantations, but there
is in music and poetry, sound in general, in the
bluster of the politician, not in the speech, in authentic
presence, if you’ve ever seen such a thing.
There’s magic in the way people walk down the street.
There’s magic in the man slumped in a doorway,
clutching a bag with a bottle, half awake.
There’s magic in the stray dogs chilling in the market.
You have to know what to look for, or, at least,
how to look.
Look out is good advice.
