I Gave My Whole Life To The United States
Grandiose, maybe, but I’m a Buddhist,
so, I had to give it away and I happened
to be in America, so that’s what happened.
Arnold Toynbee said that the coming of
Buddhism to the West was the most rad
event of the Twentieth Century, he said
it, not me, but I was part of that if anything,
and now meditation is more of a thing, not
some strange other culture’s hoagie pokie,
even scientists are taking it seriously.
So, there’s that.
I like the tombstone inscription Kurt Vonnegut
wrote in one of his novels:
“(Name here)
He tried”
