The Show Is Over

“Keep moving folks, nothing here to see.”
Hardly anyone  anymore in The United
States has the same values as their recent
ancestors.  I grew up outside of Chicago
and my father was a successful lawyer in
the city. There was  corruption and  crime
then, of course. But in the Fifties you could
feel a sense of common purpose in what
was the richest, most advanced society
the world had ever seen or would see.
Kennedy’s assassination and the burgeoning
Vietnam war was the turning point. Perhaps
the mystery behind the assassination will
never be solved. But my generation knew
instinctively that, from that point, the
government was no longer in the hands
of the people.  We saw the lies, and, instead of
going along with the show, the myth we were
being fed, we took LSD and Peyote to try to clear
our heads of the roles we were meant to play.
We were almost strong enough to change things,
but the government introduced heroin, meth and
coke, which replaced the psychedelics, and the
free thinkers were never able to organize properly.
The American Dream was dead by then, and we
lived off it’s largess while it’s corpse was still
warm. We are reaching the end of the farce that
the USA has become. The feast is still on, and
the jackals have taken the lion’s share. The wizard
uses smoke and  mirrors to conceal the truth, and
most people believe in the magic show because
they have no other options.  They’ve become
conditioned to ignoring the truth….and
while they watch the show continue, many of
the actors have stolen the box office and left town.
