Birthday Poem

Seventy seven years circling the sun
not that the sun took much notice,
and I’m not hearing any mermaids
singing to me…should I celebrate
or mourn?
I have some chocolate cake and also
the news, so, it’s a toss up.
I just hope I didn’t love in vain.

Joy and sadness happen…everything
happens…it all depends on how you
look at it…but don’t expect the world
to change…only you can change.

Trust the heart not the little voices in your head.
It’s the best way to get through the mess.
The heart is where we all began and where we belong.
I remember it even as my life is failing.
Sadness and joy are spun from the same cloth.
The heart knows all you need to know,
cynicism aside, my birthday gift to you.
